The Olde Bragg Light

Ghost Lights

Strange But True Stories

Down in the heart of the "Big Thicket", way down in East Texas, exists the olde Bragg Light. Seen for many years on an old sandy road close to Saratoga, no one has ever pinpointed its source.

"It was the first ghost light I had ever seen," my mother told me. I went once to the old road, but never saw the light myself. That does not mean that others haven't seen it though. I know I have personally seen the "Spook Light" in Oklahoma, dozens of times.

The story about the Bragg Light is about the same as many more such stories. A man was working on the railroad and was accidently decapitated, and since then looks nightly for his head, carrying an old lantern. Is there any truth to the story? I think so. My dad knew the man personally who lost his life on that railroad!
